Lawrence "Larry" P. Britton, 79 of Sioux City, passed away on Friday, December 21, 2012 at a local hospital. Abiding by family wishes, cremation has taken place and a Memorial Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Westlawn Presbyterian Church with Pastor Paul Speidel officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 28th at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with family present at 6:00 p.m. and a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.meyerbroschapels.com Larry was born on August 23, 1933 in Sioux City, Iowa to Lawrence Sailors and Ethel (Noreen) Britton. Following his high school education, Larry continued his education at the Long Beach City College in Fullerton, California. He served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict, enlisting in August of 1950 and received his honorable discharge as a Commissaryman Third Class, USN-1 in June of 1954. During his service, Larry married Darlene Cory in San Diego, California on June 10, 1952. Other than the 12 years Larry spent in California, his entire life has been enjoyed in Sioux City. Larry was a Letter Carrier for over 40 years with the United States Postal Service. He retired in 1992. Larry enjoyed his membership to the American Legion in Sioux City, enjoyed his membership to Westlawn Presbyterian Church, where he could often be found washing dishes following funeral services, but most of all, Larry enjoyed spending time with his family. Larry is survived by his wife Darlene; daughters Diana DeRocher and her husband Jack "John", and Gina McBride and her husband Doug, all of Sioux City; and grandchildren Tiffany Fravel and her husband Brandon, Kristopher Goeden, Tyler McBride, and Casey McBride. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Manley Britton.
