Charles Hansen

Charles R. "Dick" Hansen, 79 of Sioux City, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012 at a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness with cancer. Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M. Monday Dec. 17, 2012 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Sioux City. Rev David A. Hemann will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. Sunday with the family present from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. and a vigil service at 7:00 P.M. Sunday all at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com. Dick was born June 21, 1933 in Homer, NE; he was the son of Harry and Melissa (Betz) Hansen. Dick grew up in Sergeant Bluff, IA and then his family moved to the Leeds area of Sioux City and Dick attended Leeds High School. He married Janet L. Hesslingh June 29, 1957 in Sioux City. Dick began working for Sioux Tools at the age of 17 and worked there for almost 46 years, retiring in 1995. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church. Dick played softball for Taylor's Tap when he was younger. He enjoyed hunting, golfing, bowling, fishing and watching his grandson bowl 300 games. Survivors included his wife: Janet of Sioux City, 3 children: Christine Hawkinson and her husband Steve of Sioux City, William Lee Hansen and his wife Julie of Sioux City, Andrea Jacobsen and her husband Chris of Papillion, NE; a sister: Virginia Hurni of Sioux City, 3 grandchildren: Amanda Collins and her husband Nick, Jason Hawkinson, Tyler Hansen and his fiancé Jessica; 2 great grandchildren: Jayden and Arabella Collins. Dick was preceded in death by his parents; 4 brothers: Bob, Jerry, Donald and William Hansen; a brother in law: Harold Hurni. Pallbearers will be Tyler Hansen, Nick Collins, Kevin Prue, Joe Prue, Curtis Gaskell and Joe Morley
