SIOUX CITY | Harley W. "Shorty" Burson, 91 of Sioux City died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012 at his residence after a brief illness. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, Oct. 15, 2012 at First Lutheran Church in South Sioux City, Nebraska. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 4:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Condolences may be sent online at www.meyerbroschapels.com. Harley was born Dec. 14, 1920 in Moorhead, IA; he was the son of William and Pearl (Moore) Burson. He grew up in the Moorhead area and graduated from Moorhead High School. On Dec. 28, 1942 Harley married Maynon Hall in Rockport, MO. Harley came to Sioux City in 1951 and worked for Hirschbach Motor Line for several years before starting his own trucking company. He and his son, Dennis operated H. Burson & Son Trucking until he retired in 1984. Harley was a member of the Fist Lutheran Church in South Sioux City and the Triangle Masonic Lodge # 643 A.F. & A.M. He was a former member of the Abu Bekr Shrine Temple and the Scottish Rite. Harley enjoyed walking at the Mall, fishing, reading, doing cross word puzzles and wintering in Tucson, AZ. Survivors include his wife Maynon of Sioux City, 3 children: Dennis L. Burson and his wife Darlene, Diane Hirschbach, Debra Hundertmark and her husband Bruce all of Sioux City, 6 grandchildren: Dennis Burson, Jr., Wendy Steemken, Holly Becker, Reed Burson, Jaci Uecker and Addie Hollingsworth, and 13 great grandchildren He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers: Ray and George, a sister: Viola and a son in law: Jason Hirschbach. Pallbearers will be: Denny Burson, Jr., Reed Burson, Robert Hollingsworth, Gregg Uecker, Jaden Uecker and Scott McManigal, A memorial has been established in Harley's name.
