DAKOTA DUNES, S.D. | Marian Schneider, 85, of Dakota Dunes passed away Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012, at a Sioux City hospital. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Alan Wicks officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com. Marian was born to Oscar and Emma (Okerstrum) Karlson on April 19, 1927, in Cherokee, Iowa. She grew up in Cherokee and graduated from Wilson High School in 1945. After graduation, she attended Iowa State Teachers' College in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and worked for Bankers Life Insurance Company in Des Moines. Marian moved back to Cherokee, where she met Otto Schneider. Marian and Otto married on July 30, 1949, in Cherokee. Marian worked in the dentist office of Dr. Hogan until starting a family. She moved with her family to Sioux City in 1965, where she worked in the orthodontics office of Wagner, Johnson, and Rasmus. She later became assistant librarian of Hinton Library. Marian was a member of Tone Circle music group in Cherokee and enjoyed playing the organ and singing in church choirs. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Sioux City, was a St. Luke's Auxiliary volunteer, and a member of P.E.O. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed golfing in league. One of Marian's greatest joys was spending summers at Ten Mile Lake in Minnesota with her family for more than 60 years. There she loved to water-walk, play bridge, and spend time with family and many friends. She and Otto also spent winters in Scottsdale, Ariz., for 10 years. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Survivors include her husband, Otto Schneider of Dakota Dunes; two sons, Steve (Julie) Schneider of Dakota Dunes and Paul (Kerry) Schneider of Dakota Dunes; four grandchildren, Amy Bales of Scottsdale, Lee (Ashley) Bales of Grand Rapids, Minn., Emily Schneider and Elizabeth Schneider, both of Scottsdale; and a sister, Helen (Don) Duven of Waterloo, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Emma Karlson; and her brother, Carl Karlson. Memorials may be directed to First Lutheran Church in Sioux City or Hospice of Siouxland.
