Gerald "Jerry" Ruba, 77, of Sergeant Bluff passed away at his home on Friday, September 28, 2012 after a courageous, 3-year battle with cancer. Per his wishes, Jerry's body will be cremated. There will be a Memorial Mass on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Church of the Nativity with Fr. Gerald Feierfeil officiating. Inurnment of his cremains will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars, IA. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. with family present from 6-8 p.m at Meyer Brothers Memorial Morningside Chapel. There will be a rosary by the Confraternity of Christian Mothers at 4:00 p.m. and a vigil service will be at 7:00 p.m. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com. Jerry was born August 22, 1935, in Kingsley, IA to Edwin and Maxine (Nash) Ruba. He graduated from Kingsley High School and obtained journeyman machinist apprenticeship from WITCC. He worked for Mid American Energy as a Machinist, retiring in 1995. Jerry married Patricia "Pat" Masuen, his wife of more than 53 years, on June 1, 1959 in Le Mars, IA at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. He is preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Kristen, and a brother, Nolan Harrison. Jerry enjoyed fishing, gardening and the outdoors, woodworking, being his own handyman around the house, playing cards, and attending various coffee groups to socialize with friends. He had a deep love for his family and spending time with his children and grandchildren. In his retirement years, he and Pat enjoyed wintering in Apache Junction, AZ over the last 14 years. He was a member of Church of the Nativity. Jerry is survived by his wife Pat Ruba of Sergeant Bluff; daughter Michelle (Larry) Stout of Ankeny, IA; son Scott (Sarah) Ruba of Ankeny, IA; grandchildren Ben Stout, Katie (Zach) James, Nick Stout, Jessie Stout, Emily Ruba, and Andrew Ruba; great-grandchildren Trent and Kaci James; 2 sisters Karen Meyer of Sioux Falls, SD; and Sandy (Wayne) Mills of Kansas City, MO; 2 brothers Mark Ruba of Sioux City, and Denny Ruba of Sherwood, OR, and numerous nieces and nephews.
