Robert R. "Bob" Joy, 95, of Sioux City, passed away Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at a local care facility. Abiding by Bob's wishes, his body has been cremated and there will be no services at this time. Online condolences can be directed to meyerbroschapels.com. Robert was born the son of Edwin G. and Phoebe M. (Compton) Joy on April 16, 1917 in Elk Point, South Dakota where he was raised and received his schooling. Robert married Nellie Nelson on August 22, 1937 in Elk Point. He had been a Sioux City resident since 1943. Bob worked for AB Dick Company for 20 years and for Fairmont Foods for 10 years. He enjoyed fishing, camping, yard work, and traveling. Bob also enjoyed spending the winters in the Arizona desert with his wife, Nellie after retirement. He was a longtime caregiver for his wife. He was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Moose Lodge #752, and the Sioux City Eagles Club. Robert is survived by his wife of 75 years, Nellie of Sioux City; two sons, Dennis (Barbara) Joy of Palm Desert, California and Robert (Marjorie) Joy of Oak Hill, Virginia; one sister, Sylvia Dougherty of Pinole, California; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; two sisters; and one great grandson, Connor.
