SIOUX CITY | Donald M. "Driftin' Don" Losee, 84 of Sioux City, IA passed away Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012 at Touchstone Living Center from natural causes. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, 2012 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Hsu officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3:00-7:30 p.m. today with the family present 6:00-7:30 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Condolences may be posted online at www.meyerbroschapels.com. Don was born Feb. 15, 1928 in Lake City, IA the son of Fred R. and Irene Pauline (Woline) Losee. He grew up in Sioux City during the post depression era. He served with the U.S. Army during WWII. For about a year he traveled the railroads as a hobo. Through riding the rails and from the people he met is how he got his backround for the many songs, poems and cowboy stories he wrote. Don lived in a number of states before returning to Sioux City in the late 1970's. Don worked out of his home repairing lamps, sharpening blades, screen repair and he cleaned large chandeliers. He cherished the times he and his twin brother, Ron and Danne De Lair sang and played guitar at various venues. Many will remember them performing at the Senior Center. Don was a member of the local and national Country Music Association as well as an inductee to The National Old Time Country Music Hall of Fame. The songs and poems he had written were copyrighted. Survivors include nieces and nephews, Rhonda (Jerry) Moore and Julie Taylor of Sioux City and Mark Losee and Jack Losee of Florida, plus several other nieces and nephews; and his best friend and musical son, Danne De Lair of Sioux City. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers and a sister. Pallbearers will be Joshua Moore, Jerry Moore, Will Taylor, Josh De Lair and Craig Brubaker. Memorials may be made in his name to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
