Earl C. Hesse, 84 of Sioux City, passed away on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at a local nursing facility. A Memorial Service will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with Reverend R. Paul Johnston officiating. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date in Mapleton, Iowa. Visitation, with the family present, will begin on Tuesday at noon at the funeral home. Online condolences for the family may be offered at www.meyerbroschapels.com Earl was born on April 3, 1928 in Mapleton, Iowa to Carl and Lucille (Pranscke) Hesse. He received his education in Mapleton and helped on the family farm before he married Cora Jean Couch on September 17, 1947 in Mapleton. Earl and Cora Jean moved to a farm outside Hinton, Iowa where they raised their family. Earl worked in Sioux City, but operated a construction company on the side. He and Cora Jean moved into Sioux City when Earl decided to retire. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Earl was hard working, but enjoyed tinkering in his garage, hunting, fishing, camping and boating. His greatest joy was spending time with family during holidays and birthdays. His family's comment was "he was just a real joy". Earl was a proud member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. Earl is survived by his wife Cora Jean of Sioux City; son David Hesse and his wife Marlene of Sioux City; twin sister Pearl Fulton of Sioux City; brother Carl Hesse and his wife Char of Sioux City; grandson Nathan O'Connor and his fiance' Jen of Des Moines, Iowa; and great-grandchildren Abby, Ally, and Aaron, all of Des Moines. Earl was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Patty O'Connor, and 2 brothers Virgil and Vern.
