Leona F. Lindlief

Leona F. Lindlief, 95, of Sioux City passed away on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at Touchstone Living Center. Visitation will be on Monday, August 6, 2012 with family present from 5-7 p.m. and will conclude with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. conducted by Pastor Kolleen Queener at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com Leona was born on April 9, 1917 in Sioux City to Adolph and Frances Anna (Vondrak) Kovarna. She graduated from Central High School in 1935. She was married to Clifford Lindlief on September 3, 1940 in Sioux City. They moved around to various air force bases making homes in Oklahoma, Colorado, and Montana. They then settled down in Cherokee where Clifford founded and directed the Lindlief Flying Service from 1946 to 1953. Together they enjoyed traveling to Mexico, Canada, England, Scotland, and various parts of the country including New York, Alaska, Florida and Texas. He preceded her in death on October 29, 1999 in Sioux City. She was a home maker and artist. Leona was an avid reader and life long learner. She studied art, collected antiques, researched and recorded genealogy for her family books. She was accomplished with many talents and interests which included flower gardening, sewing, beaded flowers, baking, refurnishing furniture, flower arranging, interior decorating, painting and sculpturing. Leona's art work was formally recognized in October of 2010 when the Sioux City Art Center hosted an art show for her paintings and sculptures. She was also involved in many organizations which were Plymouth County 4-H Leader for 14 years, Volunteered at the Goodwill Industries, member of Kiwanis, the American Auxillary and the Hinton United Methodist Church. She is survived by her sister Helen Marie Kovarna Hathaway of Sioux City; 2 daughters Lana Jean (David) Pavlik of Ames, IA; Mary Frances Ward (Dennis) Eichinger of Princeton, MN; 4 grandchildren Eric Alan (Kelly Killorn) Pavlik of Bloomington, MN; Amy Lee Pavlik of NYC, NY; Anja Frances Eichinger of Minneapolis, MN; and Karl Lindlief Eichinger of St. Cloud, MN; and 2 great grandchildren Brennan Kathleen Killorn and Hillel Vincent Killorn of Bloomington, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Memorials may be directed to the Sioux City Art Center or Hinton Elementary Library.
