Richard E. Langley

Richard E. (Ossie) Langley, Sr. 96, of Sioux City, died Friday, July 13th at Embassy Care Center, Sergeant Bluff, after a brief illness. Funeral services for Ossie will be held on Thursday, July 19, at 2:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with Rev. Buryl Hicks and Rev. Tom Steele officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. with family present from 6-8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. He was born on March19, 1916 in Pipestone, Minnesota, the son of Edward. F. Langley and Christina (Nelson). Ossie was united in marriage to Gwen Poston in 1933, to this union 2 sons were born, Richard Jr. and Jack. He was later united in marriage to Gwen Kindig for 70 years. She preceded him in death on May 26, 2012 in Sergeant Bluff. Ossie was a lifelong horse lover and was especially fond of American saddle-bred horses. In his lifetime Ossie worked for the Illinois Central Railroad, Roberts Dairy, and Cudahy Packing. He was co-owner and operator of Langley Roofing Company for many years, and retired from the Sioux City Parks & Recreation Department in 1978. Survivors include his children; Richard Jr. and (Audrey) of Sioux City; Jack and (Sheila) of Sioux City, Bill and (Mary Ann) of Sioux City; Christine and (Jim) Van Donselaar of Sioux City, Patricia and (Keith) Peterson of Sloan, Ia, Jerry and (Amanda) of Westfield, Ia, Lucille Langley (Sampson) of Sioux City, and David and (Ella) of Springfield, Virginia. Other survivors include 16 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great grand children and a sister-in-law Barbara Kindig of Sioux City. He was preceded in death by parents, his loving wife Gwen, and siblings; brothers; Chet, Herb, Bill, twin brother Eddie, sister Grace, a brother Dennis, and 2 grandchildren Ricky and Jon Langley. Pallbearers will be grandsons Michael Langley, Steve Langley, Brian Peterson, Rick Langley, Denny Langley, and Mike Sampson. Memorials should be directed to the Langley family.
