Ethel J. Krommenhoek

November 16, 1919 — June 24, 2012

Ethel J. Krommenhoek, 92 of Sioux City, passed away on Sunday, June 24, 2012 at her residence. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at Bethany Lutheran Church with Reverend Gerry Bruhn officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be today, Tuesday June 26th from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with family present at 6:00 p.m. at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.meyerbroschapels.com Ethel was born on November 16, 1919 in Vermillion, South Dakota to John and Elizabeth (Ness) Johnson. She married Nicholas Krommenhoek on September 3, 1936 in Elk Point, South Dakota. To this union six children were born. Ethel worked for Cudahys Packing and Wincharger before they were purchased by Sioux Tools, where she worked in the production line before retiring in 1984. Ethel enjoyed cooking, sewing, and embroidery work. She was an avid sports fan, enjoying Cubs, Braves, and Twins Baseball and Iowa Hawkeye Football. In her earlier years, Ethel enjoyed playing cards. She was a charter member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Sioux City, and enjoyed past memberships to St. Luke Lutheran Church, First Lutheran Church, along with the Ladies of '68. Ethel is survived by her sons Richard Krommenhoek and his wife Maryann, and Darrell Krommenhoek; daughter Janet Ream, all of Sioux City; 19 grandchildren, and numerous great and great-great grandchildren; and sister-in-law Margaret Johnson. Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, husband Nicholas in 1975, son Tommy Dean Krommenhoek, daughter Judy K. Tott, infant son Gary Alan Krommenhoek, brothers Arthur, Eldon, Bjarney, Kenny, Edwin and infant John Jr., sisters Clara, Sally, Gladys, and Joyce, daughter-in-law Arlene Krommenhoek, and grandson Tommy Dean Krommenhoek II.
