John R. Miller, 75, of Sioux City, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, June 24, 2012. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, June 29, 2012 at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Reverend Tess Panamarow officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, June 28, 2012 from 4 to 8 P.M. with the family present from 6 to 8 P.M. with a prayer service at 7 P.M. all held at the church. Cremation will take place after the funeral and private family interment will be held at a later date. Online condolences can be directed to meyerbroschapels.com. John was born the son of Richard C. and Helen D. (Girard) Miller on May 14, 1937 in South Sioux City, Nebraska. He graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1956 and later attended the University of Nebraska and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Social Sciences from Wayne State University on April 8, 1973. He married his soul mate, Sandy Miller, on May 14, 1983 in Sioux City where they spent 29 short years together. John worked as a juvenile counselor for the Boys and Girls Home for 10 years. He was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, listening to music, books on tape, and playing poker. He attended Immanuel Lutheran Church with his wife Sandy, brother Bob (Elaine) Miller, and sister Diane (Dennis) McKernan. In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials which will be given to a charity in John's memory. John is survived by his wife, Sandy; three daughters, Suzanne Villalobos, Roxanne Hettinger, and Joann Tucker; four sons, Bradley Miller, Brian Miller, Joseph Luse, and Eric (Anastasia) Kvam; one sister, Diane (Dennis) McKernan; one brother, Robert (Elaine) Miller; one sister-in-law, Dianne Miller; 9 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; former spouses, Darlene Luse and Ann Lambertus; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Brenda; one son, Mark; and one brother, Gary. We will all miss him dearly - we love you shotgun!
