MOVILLE, Iowa | Thomas J. "Tom" Weitzel, 58, of Moville passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at his residence following a two and one half years long battle with cancer. Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel in Sioux City. The family requests that everyone come dressed casually. Burial will be in Arlington Township Cemetery, Moville. Visitation with the family will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com. Tom was born on July 17, 1953, in Sioux City, the son of Walter and Eileen (Dorman) Weitzel. He attended St. Joseph Grade School and Central High School in Sioux City. He married Lynette S. Boorom on Nov. 21, 1981, in Moville. Tom had worked for PQ Auto Salvage for 12 years and had worked at Cloverleaf Cold Storage since 1995. Tom enjoyed race cars and drag racing. In 1995, he had the fastest Mustang in the Sioux City area. He was a member of the Tri-State Drag Racing Association. Tom also enjoyed working in his garage, going to swap meets, boating, and collecting scrap metal. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Lynette of Moville; three children, Brooke Olmstead and her husband, Louis, Travis Weitzel and his wife, Nicole, and Corey Weitzel and his wife, Andrea, all of Sioux City; five brothers and sisters, Loren Weitzel and his wife, Pat of Sioux City, Mary Mueller and her husband, Mike of Lawton, Iowa, Keith Weitzel of Lawton, Bill Weitzel of Eagan, Minn., and Brent Weitzel and his wife, Fay of Sioux City; his father-in-law, Bob Boorom of Dodge, Neb.; a sister-in-law, Sherry Cross and her husband, Jim of Moville; and seven grandchildren, Kiana, Jadyn, Kennidy, Ruby, Kaelee, Koby, and Khloee. He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law, Peggy Boorom; and a sister-in-law, Carol Weitzel. Pallbearers will be Jeremy Gothier, Brandon Weitzel, Shannon Weitzel, Jeremy Cross, Danny Cooper, and Ryan Downs. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren. A memorial has been established in Tom's name.
