Al Marsh, 60. of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at a local care facility following a lengthy illness. Memorial services will be noon Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with his brother, Greg Wallace, officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral home. The family would like to invite everyone to a luncheon and time of fellowship at Townhouse Sports Bar, 27th and Floyd Blvd., following the service. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com. Al was born on July 18, 1951, in San Antonio, Texas, the son of Gerald and Patricia (Flannery) Marsh. Al grew up in San Antonio and graduated from Alamo Heights High School, where he played baseball. He attended and played baseball at Ranger Junior College and Pan Am University. He was drafted by the New York Mets baseball team. Al married Becky Leffers on Nov. 1, 1980, in Brownsville, Texas. Al moved to Sioux City in 1987. He worked for the South Sioux City School District for many years, where he had many friends and students who loved him. He played softball in South Texas and Sioux City and was voted MVP at several state softball championship finals. Al had coached Little League baseball, football and basketball. He also had a traveling Little League team. Survivors include his wife, Becky Marsh of Sioux City; two sons, James "J.J." Marsh and a special daughter-in-law by love, Aly Ahrens of Omaha, and Richie Marsh serving in the U.S. Air Force; and two brothers and their wives, David and Colleen Wallace of Albuquerque, N.M., and Greg and Janice Wallace of Georgetown, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Pat McMillan. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Luxford, Mark Casey, Mike Wright, Doyle Smith, and Larry Simon.
