Raymond E. Stewart, 92, of Sioux City, passed away Friday, June 1, 2012 at a local nursing home. A Masonic service will be held at 10:45 A.M. Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at Trimble United Methodist Church with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Martha Anderson officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M. Ray was born the son of Rufus E. and Lola (Holder) Stewart on October 4, 1919 in Akron, Colorado. He joined the United States Navy Sea Bees during World War II, serving as a firefighter instructor. He joined the Sioux City Police Dept. on September 9, 1947 as a Patrolman. He was promoted to a Sgt. January 16, 1959. He served in the detective unit until his retirement on October 4, 1976. Ray married Barbara Taylor on March 21, 1964 in Sioux City. After retiring from the Police Dept., Ray and his wife, Barbara, owned and operated Stewart's Resort in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota for several years. After retiring from the resort business, they lived at Siesta Village in Weslaco, Texas until moving back to Iowa in 1997. Ray was a lifetime member of Triangle Masonic Lodge #643 in Sioux City. He was also a member and Past Master of the Llano Grande Masonic Lodge #1173 in Weslaco, Texas. Ray played drums and sang in bands since he was a child. Survivors include his wife, Barbara; daughters, Vickie Andersen, and Linda (Steve) Glorfield; sons, Rick (Terry) Stewart, Mike (Juli) Stewart; 8 grandchildren, Stewart Bailey, Tom (Elizabeth) Glorfield, Carie (Mike) Mahler, Chad Stewart, Sara (Dewey) Howard, Katie (Virgil) Beach, Sierra and Charlie Stewart; 9 great grandchildren; 4 nieces, Phyllis (Harold) Miller, Doris (Jack) Duncan, Sherry Whitaker, and Jeanne (Larry) Roebuck; one nephew, Claude (Polly) Potter; and several great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; one daughter, Nancy; two great grandsons, Michel Mahler and Connor Howard.
