SIOUX CITY | James R. "Jim" Flanagan, Jr., 76 of Sioux City, IA passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at Touchstone Living Center after a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 4, 2012 at St. Boniface Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Erpelding officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery in South Sioux City, NE. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday with the family present 6-8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be made online at www.meyerbroschapels.com . Jim was born January 4, 1936 in Sioux City the son of James R. and Kathryn (Blair) Flanagan. He grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School. On July 21, 1956 he married Rita M. Rush in So. Sioux City, NE. Together they raised 3 children, Kim, Greg and Becky. Jim was an insurance agent for many years. After his retirement he worked at 3 casinos and for the Gordon HyVee Store in floral deliveries. Jim enjoyed spending time with his family, especially holiday gatherings and boating on the Missouri River and at Okoboji. He enjoyed bowling, golf, and watching all sports on TV, especially the Hawkeye's, Notre Dame, and the San Francisco 49er's. Survivors include his wife of nearly 56 years, Rita; 3 children and their spouses, Kim and Gerry Marron of Tremont, IL, Greg and Cathy Flanagan of Mt. Pleasant, IA and Becky and Kirk Hoffman of Bellevue, NE; a brother, Danny Flanagan of Colorado; 3 sisters and their husbands, Julie and Marlin DeGrandmont of Galt, California, Kathy and Jerry Frame of Des Moines, IA and Pat and Dan Nice of So. Sioux City, NE; 13 grandchildren, Amy Marron, Stacy Post, Chris, Nick, Corey, Ben, Josh and Ali Marron, Luke and Caitlyn Flanagan, and Chad, Adam and Elizabeth Hoffman; 5 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents. Pallbearers will be his grandsons and honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters.
