Darrell A. Ryan

Darrell A. Ryan, 80, of Sioux City passed away on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at Sunrise Retirement Community. There will be a graveside service on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery with a visitation one hour prior to the graveside at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at Grace United Methodist Church with Rev. Tony Nester officiating. Darrell was born March 7, 1932 in Sioux City to Phillip and Gladys (Fisher) Ryan. He graduated from East High School. After graduation he served his country during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Gloria Stofferan on October 13, 1956 in Baker Township near Hospers, IA. Darrell worked as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He enjoyed fishing, playing golf, and watching college football, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes. He was also an avid wood worker, making furniture and wood carvings. Darrell was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife Gloria Ryan of Sioux City; daughters Julia (David) Hawkins of Horn Lake, MS & Jill (Kevin) Landau of Mason City, IA; 4 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild; brother Donn (Mary) Ryan of Westfield, IA; and a sister Gladine "Penny" (Richard) Kleinberg of Sioux City. He was preceded in death by his parents. Pallbearers will be Dave Hawkins, Kevin Landau, Cole Landau, Jeremy Ryan, Jesse Hawkins and Richard Kleinberg.
