Geraldine "Gerry" Utecht, 90, of Sioux City, passed away Saturday, April 21, 2012 at a local care facility. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at Calvary Lutheran Church with Revered James Travis officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 24, 2012 from 4 to 8 P.M. with the family present from 6 to 8 P.M. and a prayer service at 7 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Gerry was born the daughter of Eugene and Clara (Johnson) Bishop on September 7, 1921 in Maskell, Nebraska. She graduated from Maskell High School and later obtained a teaching certificate from Wayne State College. Geraldine married Herbert W. Utecht on December 28, 1946 in Sioux City. Herb passed away on June 14, 1984. Gerry taught country school for several years near Maskell. She also worked at Younkers in various departments until her retirement. She loved sewing, gardening, reading, and traveling. She also enjoyed singing in choirs at church and the Senior Center. She was an involved member of Calvary Lutheran Church for almost 60 years, where she was active in choir, circles, committees, and was dedicated to Bible study. The family would like to thank Bickford Cottage and Hospice of Siouxland for the love and care they provided for Gerry. Geraldine is survived by one daughter, Carolyn (Mike) Stansberry; one son Bill (Kathy) Utecht all of Parker, Colorado; two brothers, Wendell (Joyce) Bishop of Sioux City, and Clair Bishop of Placerville, California; two grandchildren; and one great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to Calvary Lutheran Church or Hospice of Siouxland.
