NEWCASTLE, Neb. -- Philip W. Schulte, 83, of Newcastle passed away Monday, April 16, 2012, at Elms Health Care Center in Ponca, Neb. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2012 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Newcastle. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, with a vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church parish hall. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. Philip was born on March 7, 1929, in Wynot, Neb., the son of Henry and Tillie (Day) Schulte. He married Berniece Olander on April 26, 1950, in Newcastle. Philip worked for 50 years as a heavy equipment operator for various construction companies including Schulte Construction. He was a past volunteer fireman for Newcastle Fire Department. He was a long time member of St. Peter's Catholic Church. He enjoyed family gatherings and spending time with friends. Survivors include his wife, Berniece Schulte of Newcastle; six children, Don and his wife, Sue of Ponca, Jim and his wife, Julie of New Boston, Ill., Larry and his wife, Kristie of Ponca, Mary Jean Schulte of Martinsburg, Neb., Patrick and his wife, Kristine of Elkhorn, Neb., and Lisa and her husband, Dean Burton of Onawa, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Mark and Michael Schulte; four brothers, Jerome, Carl, George and Fred; and two sisters, Mary and Lillian.
