DECATUR, Neb. -- Pat Young, 90, of Decatur passed away with his family by his side on Easter Sunday, April 8, 2012, at his home north of Decatur. Per his wishes, the body was cremated. Pat, the son of James J. and Maggie Rose (Harmon) Young, was born on a small farm north of Decatur, on December 28, 1921. He had 12 brothers and sisters. He and his family moved to Walthill, Neb., when he was 15 years old. At the early age of 12, he started working cutting willow trees to help his family. He always worked hard to help his family growing up. At the age of 24, he married Eva Joy Nunn also from Walthill. They were married on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1946. To this union four children were born, Marvin, Eddie Ray, Patsy, and Kimberly. They lived in Sioux City, Omaha, and various other towns throughout their lives as he worked construction most of his life. In 1982, he retired and built his home north of Decatur. He and Eva also had a business called EJ Young Salvage for years before his age and health caused him to close the business. His favorite pastime was fishing, working on cars and spending time with his family. He loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who meant everything to him. He will always be fondly remembered for his teasing. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and will be deeply missed by everyone. Pat is survived by his wife, Eva Young of Decatur; son, Marvin Young of Decatur; daughter, Patsy Schoen of Sioux City; daughter, Kimberly Valenzuela of Sioux City; son, William "Willie" Young of Peach Tree, Ga.; a daughter, Rosie Gunderson of rural South Sioux City; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; 12 siblings; and two sons, Eddy Ray and Gene Young.
