SIOUX CITY -- Richard R. Sailer, 89, of Sioux City passed away Monday, April 9, 2012, at a local care facility. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 13, 2012 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Del Olivier officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Township Cemetery, Moville, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com. Richard was born on September 26, 1922, in Zap, N.D., the son of Rudolph and Rebecca (Knecht) Sailer. He grew up in Zap before moving to Moville. Richard married Elizabeth Ralston on April 20, 1952, in Sioux City. He was self-employed as a mechanic in Moville and then moved to Sioux City. He was a mechanic for Sioux Transportation for many years before retiring in 1984. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and gardening. Survivors include five children, Janet Harcourt of Jefferson City, Mo., Jerry Sailer and his wife, Marcia of Moville, Jim Sailer and his wife, Laura of Moville, David Sailer and his wife, Vicki of Camp Hill, Pa., and Denis Sailer and his wife, Penny of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two brothers and their wives, Elmer and Linda Sailer of Beulah, N.D., and Eugene and Eldora Sailer of Zap; two sisters, Ruby Tesky and Ardella Herrmann, both of Beulah; and nine grandchildren, Emmie Harcourt, Christine Sailer, Jeffrey Sailer, Bethany Sailer, Aaron Sailer, Jacob Sailer, Joseph Sailer, Sean Sailer and Ethan Sailer. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Alfred, Ervin and Reynold Sailer; and three sisters, Irene and Helen Sailer and Hertha Burow. Pallbearers will be Jeffrey, Christine and Bethany Sailer, and Emmie Harcourt.
