McCOOK LAKE, S.D. -- Patrick Shanahan, 58, of McCook Lake passed away Sunday, April 1, 2012, at Touchstone Living Center in Sioux City. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Craig Collison officiating. Burial will be in McCook Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present at 6 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. Pat was born December 2, 1953, in Sioux City, to James and Enid Shanahan. He graduated from East High School in 1972. He also graduated from the South Dakota Police Academy in 1976. He married Mary "Mimi" Priborsky on November 17, 1973, in Sioux City. They made their home in McCook Lake. Pat worked at Dyna Technologies, Sioux Tools, and Donnelley Marketing. In 1988, he and his wife purchased the Mail House in Sioux City. They operated the business until 2001, when he sold it to his son, Chris. Pat was a Master Gardener and volunteered more than 2,500 hours, sharing his love of gardening. Since 2006, he coordinated the Master Gardener classes at Woodbury County Extension and helped with the Siouxland Garden Show. He always raised a vegetable garden and made many beautiful flower gardens in his yards. He also helped many others with their own yards. He always worked alongside his dog, Hope, in the yard and trained her well. He also loved woodworking, traveling and Iowa Hawkeye basketball. Most of all, he loved his family and was especially proud of his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Mary "Mimi" Shanahan; a son, Christopher Shanahan of Hinton, Iowa; a daughter, Laura Lytton and her husband, Jerod of Sioux City; two sisters, Linda Glisar and her husband, Jim of Sioux City, and Karen Stultz and her special friend, Larry Thoma of Sioux City; three brothers, Mike Shanahan and his wife, Deb of Kanab, Utah, Joe Shanahan and his wife, Robyn of Poynette, Wis., and Tom Shanahan and his wife, Jackie of Jacksonville, Fla.; his grandchildren, Christian, Bradly, Amie, and Alex Shanahan of Hinton, and Meara, Teagan, and Eila Lytton of Sioux City; and his dear friend and loyal companion, his German shepherd, Hope. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Enid Shanahan; and his father-in-law, Otto Priborsky of McCook Lake. The family wishes to express their thanks to the June E.
