Darlene L. Salmen, 59, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, March 25, 2012 in her home surrounded by her family following a courageous fourteen year battle with cancer. Services will be held at 10:30 Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at St. Michael Catholic Church with Father Gary Snyder officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-8 P.M. with the family present from 6-8 P.M. and a Vigil service at 7:00 P.M. all at the church. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Darlene was born June 28, 1952 in Sioux City, Iowa the daughter of Donald and Irene (Sullivan) Pyle. She graduated from Bishop Heelan High School in 1970 and Western Iowa Tech Community College in 1982 with a degree in Medical Administration. Darlene married James L. Salmen at St. Boniface Catholic Church on June 19th 1971. She worked for St. Joseph Hospital, and then Prairie Pediatrics and the Adolescent Clinic P.C. acting as office manager for the past 30 years. Darlene was very active in the community and involved in many organizations including the Iowa Medical Group Management Association, Siouxland Medical Group Management Assoc., Wellmark Practice Management Advisory Council, Ronald McDonald House Board of Directors, Siouxland Chamber of Commerce, Siouxland Humane Society, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1973 Auxiliary. Darlene devoted her life to her husband, family, friends, and career. A simple paragraph cannot epitomize Darlene's life work. She enjoyed the little things in life, a grandchild's ballgame, a family meal, family vacations at the cabin, and celebrating holidays. Darlene's love for life shined and continues to shine through so many. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband James Salmen of Sioux City; son Jeff and wife Hallie Salmen and their children Emily, Grace, and Jacob of Jackson, NE; a daughter Jennifer and husband Darren Hunt and their children Connor and Addison of Omaha, NE; her mother: Irene Pyle of Sioux City; 5 brothers and sisters: David Pyle and his wife Sheryl of Jefferson, SD, Donna Uhl and her husband Steve of Sioux City, Dennis Pyle of Sioux City, Theresa Butrous and her husband Rick of Platte City, MO, Lisa Tritz and her husband John of Sioux City She was preceded in death by her father Donald Pyle, nephew Gary Pyle, father in law Chester and mother in law Iola Salmen. Pallbearers will be Dan Kirwan, Kevin Kirwan, Tim Salmen, Doug Salmen, Kirk Pyle, and Nick Butrous.
