SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- Ruth Elaine Poulsen, 85, of South Sioux City passed away Sunday, March 18, 2012, at Regency Square Care Center. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Ruth was born on September 14, 1926, in Sioux City, the daughter of Sam and Anna (Grove) Matthews. She married John Poulsen on April 1, 1944, in Woodbury County, Iowa. To this union eight sons were born. John passed away on Feb. 3, 1988, in Sioux City. Ruth worked at Zenith until retirement. She was a member and president of Royal Neighbors of America. She also was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and a senior companion to many. She enjoyed reading, puzzles books, embroidery and going to lunch with friends. Most of all, she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Survivors include eight sons, Richard (Sandy) of South Sioux City, John (Laurie) of Sturgis, Mich., Sam (Lynn) of Storm Lake, Iowa, Kenneth (Deb) of Sioux City, Larry of Sioux City, Terry (Ginger) of Hornick, Iowa, Scott (Donna) of Oyens, Iowa, and Jerriett (Sho) of Tampa, Fla.; 20 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Shirley; and a great-great-granddaughter, Addyson Heins.
