Roberta Claire Fischer, 88, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012, at a Sioux City hospital. Visitation will be 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, with a prayer service at 5 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Private graveside services will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com. Roberta was born Jan. 18, 1924, in Albany, Mo., to Morris B. and Edith (Shoemaker) Street. She graduated from high school in Iowa City, Iowa. She then graduated from the University of Iowa. she also completed graduate studies at the University of Michigan. She was married to Gary E. Fischer on Aug. 17, 1955, in Fargo-Moorhead, N.D. She worked as a dietician for many years at many nursing homes and hospitals in the area. Her husband preceded her in death in 1985 in Sioux City. Roberta loved watching sports, particularly her beloved Iowa Hawkeyes playing football and basketball. She also supported the schools where her grandchildren attended at Butler and VCU. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Roberta is survived by her two sons, Wayne Fischer of Carmel, Ind., and Kevin (Laura) Fischer of Indianapolis, Ind.; her twin daughters, Nancy (Dan) Swanson of Richmond, Va., and Norma (Jim) Loffswold of Sioux City; five grandchildren; a sister, Quintella (Bob) Bichel of Olathe, Kan.; and a sister-in-law, Barbara Street of Phoenix, Ariz. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a brother, Johnny Street. Memorials may be directed to Sunrise Retirement Community in memory of Roberta.
