She attended Sioux City schools and graduated from Central High School. On November 27, 1965 in Sioux City she married Ronald D. Kistner, her best friend and love of her life. In between being an awesome mother, amazing grandmother and loving wife, Dot worked as a secretary or business manager for various Siouxland businesses including Production Credit Association, the Sioux City Country Club, the Jefferson School District, the Nike Tour and the Union County Assessor's Office. She retired in 2011. Dot loved her family and especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed making "Grandma cookies" for everyone and taking pictures and sharing them. Dot wrote beautiful poems for family and friends to help them celebrate the special moments in their lives. She also loved "junkin'" to collect dishes for people, whether they needed them or not. She was a lifelong pillar of Glendale Baptist Church and a Sunday school teacher. WHILE SHE HAS TOUCHED AND BEEN TOUCHED BY SO MANY, HER FAMILY IS GOING TO MISS HER MOST OF ALL and will keep her alive in their hearts: her husband, Ron; 3 children and their spouses, Pat and Lynn Kistner of San Diego, CA, Shara and Chris McGowan of Basehor, KS and Steven and Darcie Kistner of McCook Lake, SD; 2 brothers and their wives, Dick and JoAnn Stokes of Sioux City and Butch and Bea Stokes of Whiting, IA; 9 grandchildren Booboo, Raylor and Lucy Kistner, Luke, Erin and Sean McGowan and Mitchell, Lake and Veronica Kistner. Dot is now walking everyday and breathing peacefully in heaven with her parents, 2 brothers, Jim and Carroll Stokes and an infant sister, Delores. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2 Tim 4:7 In lieu of flowers, donations will be made to a memorial in her honor.
