Alice Wecker

November 3, 1921 — February 17, 2012

SIOUX CITY -- Alyce Wecker, 90, of Sioux City passed away Friday, February 17, 2012, at a Sioux City hospital, after a brief illness. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Roger Madden officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Tuesday at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com. Alyce was born November 3, 1921, in Sioux City, to Michael and Elizabeth (Humza) Borschuk. She grew up in Sioux City and attended Sioux City schools. She graduated with honors from Central High School. She worked for Cudahy's Packing Plant and Wincharger before her marriage. Alyce married William "Bill" Wecker on August 21, 1943. After their marriage, they lived for a short time at the Wecker farm near Hinton, Iowa. Alyce bowled and golfed in leagues here in Sioux City. She enjoyed her yard, flowers, her dogs and traveling. Alyce and Bill took several bus trips around the country. She was a big supporter of Morningside College athletics, the Explorers baseball team and the Chicago Cubs. Survivors include her husband, William "Bill" Wecker of Sioux City; her daughter, Barbara Knopp of Caledonia, Ill.; her brother, Phillip Borschuk and his wife, Ida May of Sioux City; her sister, Betty Tapper of Sioux City; two grandchildren, Amy DePinto and her husband, Justin of Elmhurst, Ill., and Andrew Knopp of Denver, Colo.; two great-grandchildren, Isabella and Dominic DePinto of Elmhurst; a sister-in-law, Lois Borschuk of Sioux City; several nieces and nephews including Deb Tudehope of Sioux City; and a special family friend, Vickie Buchholz of Caledonia, Ill. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Mike and Jerry; and two sisters, Zena and Mary. Memorials may be made in Alyce's name to the Morningside College Women's Athletic Department.
