SIOUX CITY -- John R. Dawdy Sr., 68, of Sioux City passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, February 13, 2012, due to a lengthy illness. Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, February 16, 2012 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at the funeral home. John was born September 21, 1943, in Oto, Iowa, the son of Marguerite (Stanley) and Raymond Dawdy. John and his mother moved to Sioux City, where he met and married Janice K. Brown. They were married on November 3, 1962. John had worked at IBP for 38 years, retiring in 2007 due to illness. John became a foster parent in 1993 and continued until his passing. He was part of the Local 222. John enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time at the Ridge with his family. John is survived by his wife of 49 years, Janice: sons, John (Lisa), Jerry (Shelli), Joe and Jay; grandchildren, Justin, Jacob, Nathan, Terah, Spencer, Nick, and Ryan; longtime family friend, Loren; his special sons, Miguel, Alan, Matthew, Mark and Jerry; and his best pals, his Yorkies, Katie and Kelsey. His parents, Marguerite and Raymond, preceded John in death. Special thanks to Mercy Home Care, and Sherry, Robin, and Kelly for such wonderful care of John.
