SIOUX CITY -- Lester D. Robinson, 79 of Sioux City passed away on Friday, February 10, 2012 at a local nursing facility. Private family services have been arranged, including a private family burial. Lester was born on November 28, 1932 in rural Woodbury County to Lester J. and Sophie (Wink) Robinson. He received his education and graduated from Bronson Public Schools. Lester enlisted in the United States Army in December of 1952. He received the Army of Occupation Medal and the National Defense Service Medal while serving in Germany, where he served alongside Willie Nelson. Lester received his honorable discharge in November of 1954. He married Violet Smith in 1955, to which union four children were born, Bradley, Calvin, Lori and Loren. Following a divorce, Lester married Francis Westhoff, to which union one son, Troy was born. Lester worked his entire career and retired from, Swift and Company in Sioux City, having the nickname "Hoppy" by his fellow crew members. He was a handyman and could fix anything. He could always be found enjoying his garden on his time at home. Lester was very much a family man, gentle and very loving. He was an avid bowler, enjoyed watching western movies and listening to country music. He was a past member of the UFCW. Lester is survived by his son, Bradley Robinson and his wife Christy of Sergeant Bluff, and their children, Shad, Shawn, Cortney and Cody; son, Calvin Robinson and his wife Denise of Sioux City, and their children, Ryan, Jenni, Crista and Autumn; daughter, Lori Conway and her husband David of Sioux City, and their children Tim and Kara; son, Loren Robinson and his wife Jeanne of Marcus, Iowa, and their children, Candice, Theresa, Jody, Cathy, Wanda, Kenny, Keith and Michael; and son, Troy Robinson of Sioux City, and his children, Melanie and McKenzie; and numerous great-grandchildren. Lester was preceded in death by his parents and two half-brothers, Bill and George Mize. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Lester's name may be offered to Hospice of Siouxland.
