Esther A. Hattenbach

November 12, 1918 — February 4, 2012

SIOUX CITY -- Esther A. Hattenbach, 93, of Sioux City passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 4, 2012, at a local nursing facility. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be one hour prior to the services Wednesday at the funeral home. Esther was born on November 12, 1918, in Osnabrock, N.D., to Lars E. and Julia B. (Graftaas) Wedwick. Following her education, Esther married Monroe Hattenbach on June 1, 1940, in Wayne, Neb. The couple owned and operated the War Eagle Bowling Alley in downtown Sioux City. Esther enjoyed her memberships to the Eastern Star and to the Sioux City Women's Club, an organization that she was a member of for over 55 years, including being the oldest member in Sioux City. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Mundelein, Ill., with her sister Florence. Esther enjoyed being a Gold Star Member of the Auxiliary. Esther is survived by her niece, Mary Heidenreich of Sioux City; nephews, Martin Yundt and his wife, Dagmar of Libertyville, Ill., and Larry Yundt and his wife, Elaine of Hope Sound, Fla. Esther was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Monroe; brothers, Clem, Elmer, Art and Lloyd Wedwick; and her sisters, Agnes Hurst and Florence Yundt. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
