SIOUX CITY -- Harold "Ken" Barringer, 72, of Sioux City died Tuesday, January 31, 2012, at Touchstone Living Center following a lengthy illness. Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Friday, February 3, 2012 at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel, with the Rev. Tim Squire officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Ken was born August 16, 1939, in Emmetsburg, Iowa, the son of Harold Kenneth and E. Virginia (Curtis) Barringer. He grew up in Ruthven, Iowa, and graduated from Ruthven High School with honors in 1957. He then attended Emmetsburg Junior College and graduated from Wayne (Neb.) State College. He received his master's degree in social work from the University of Missouri in Columbia, Mo. Ken had served in the National Guard. Ken married Fern Alice Vogt on August 21, 1965, in Naper, Neb. She died in July 1995. Ken was a social worker for Woodbury County for many years. He then worked at the Boys and Girls Home and at Western Hills Area Education Agency before medically retiring in 1993. Ken grew up in the Methodist church and was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was a member of SIGBI and enjoyed reading. When he was younger, he enjoyed hunting. Survivors include two daughters, Tashia Hamilton and her husband, James of Pembroke Pines, Fla., and Heather Barringer of Sioux City; a sister, Marilyn Yoakum of Willmar, Minn.; four grandchildren, Faith, Kirstin, D'Andre, and Alana; and two great-grandchildren, Savannah and Natalya. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Fern; and a brother, David Barringer.
