SIOUX CITY -- Marion "Mike" Bliek, 79, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012 at a local nursing home. Services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, January 30, 2012 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Roger Madden officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mike was born Oct. 19, 1932 in Rock Valley, Iowa, the son of John and Ruth (Brinkman) Bliek. As a young child, his family moved to Sioux City, and then to Doon, Iowa, where he graduated in 1952. Mike enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on July 25, 1952. During his military career he worked as a leather craftsman and a parachute repairman, traveling around the world to countries like India, Pakistan, Vietnam, Ethiopia and Arabia. Mike retired with full military honors on June 1, 1976. His hobbies included all types of aircraft and NASCAR. He also loved to fish with his brother, Hank. Survivors include Cornelius "Fred" Bliek and his wife Gaylan of Texas, Foster and Judy of Sioux City, Dave and Ellen of Tennessee, and Richard of Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and one sister.
