Maurine Heeger

SIOUX CITY -- Maurine Heeger, 87, lifelong resident of Sioux City, died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, at her home in Sioux City. Memorial services will be noon Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at Congregation Beth Shalom, with Rabbi Sarah Messinger officiating, followed by a meal of consolation at the synagogue. A private family burial will follow in Mount Sinai Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel. Mrs. Heeger was born Donna Maurine Holland on July 3, 1924, in Sioux City, the daughter of James and Gladys Holland. She graduated from East High School. She then attended the University of Iowa, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She was admitted to the bar in 1953 and was a member of the Iowa Bar Association and American Bar Association. Mrs. Heeger worked as a law research assistant for the Iowa General Assembly early in her career and was later an assistant county attorney in the Iowa Child Support Enforcement Unit until her retirement at age 72. She was married to the late Myron Heeger for more than 36 years. Maurine and Myron were members of Mount Sinai Temple and later, Congregation Beth Shalom and the Sioux City Country Club. She was a member of Sisterhood, Hadassah and served on the Women's Board of the Sioux City Symphony. She is survived by her son and his wife, James Heeger and Daryl Messinger of Palo Alto, Calif., their children, Adam and Robert; son, Michael of New York City, and his child, Liam; as well as beloved family and friends. She was preceded in death by her brother, Roy Holland of Chicago, Ill. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be given to Congregation Beth Shalom or to the Joslin Diabetes Center at Harvard Medical Center.
