SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- Genevieve E. Engel, 86, of South Sioux City died Wednesday, January 18, 2012, at Northpark Senior Living in Sioux City. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 23, 2012 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. James deAnda officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a rosary at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com. Genevieve was born Feb. 2, 1925, in South Sioux City, the daughter of Chester and Alice (Curry) Eastman. She graduated from South Sioux City High School, St. Vincent Hospital School of Radiology and attended Morningside College. She received a degree from Florida State College in interior design. Genevieve married Marvin Engel on Sept. 12, 1942, in Ponca, Neb. He died June 15, 2004, in Sioux City. She worked in the medical field and with her husband at the Paddock Steak House in South Sioux City. She was a member of the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, the Nebraska Society of Radiologic Technologists and the American Society of Radiologic Technologists. She was a member of the P.E.O. Chapter DE, a craft and culture organization, bridge groups and ceramic groups. She also was a member of the Dakota City Tennis Association and was a past president of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a member of the Dakota City Historical Society. Survivors include her son, Robert Engel of South Sioux City; a grandson, Robert Engel Jr. of Ormond Beach, Fla.; three granddaughters, Kathy Stabler and her husband, James of Colorado Springs, Colo., Mandy Engel-Cartie and her husband, Kevin of Sioux City, and Candi Curry and her husband, Marc of Sioux City; and six great-grandchildren, Erin Engel, Brayden Curry, Nathen Curry, Jayce Curry, Noah Engel-Cartie and Campbell Engel-Cartie. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marvin; a son, Dennis; and a sister, Dorothy Jensen. Memorials may be made in her name to Hospice of Siouxland.
