SIOUX CITY -- Robert R. Rice, 80, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, at a local hospital. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Southern Hills Baptist Church. A time for fellowship and a luncheon will follow the service Saturday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel. Robert was born Jan. 11, 1931, in Orchard, Neb., the son of Raymond and Mildred Rice. He married Maxine on Aug. 17, 1952, in Alliance, Neb. Robert was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Navy. After his military duties, he worked for Shrader Produce in South Sioux City and Hy-Line Hatchery. He then began working for IMF (Super Sweet Feeds) until his retirement. He also worked for Tri-State Best Feeds, USA Tire, and Hinton Farmer's Co-op until his passing. Robert was an avid golfer and hunter. He also loved to fish. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Maxine L. Rice; a daughter, Paula Burke; a son, Craig (Dianna) Rice; two brothers; a sister; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Robyn; and various loved ones. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family in Robert's name.
