SIOUX CITY -- Dorothy M. Todd, 87, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2012, at Sunrise Retirement Community. Services will be 10 a.m. Monday, January 16, 2012 at Sunnybrook Community Church, with the Rev. Jon Moravec officiating. Burial will be in Dakota City Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave. Dorothy was born May 9, 1924, on Mondamin Ranch near Jackson, Neb., the daughter of Merrill and Gladys (Gunsolley) Shanks. Dorothy grew up in South Sioux City and graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1942. She worked for a short time at Armour and Co. before her marriage. She was married to Ernest R. Todd on May 12, 1945, in Merced, Calif. Ernest died on April 5, 2010. Dorothy was a homemaker and faithful partner to Ernie in many family businesses. She was a follower of Christ and was very active in her local church. Survivors include her children, Vicki Schweiger and her husband, Jerry of Dakota City, Michael Todd of Hubbard, Neb., and Sam Todd and his wife, Pam of Lake Mary, Fla.; a special nephew, Steve Shanks and his wife, Hazel of Seneca, Ill.; a brother, Glenn Robert Shanks of Riverside, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Todd Schweiger and his wife, Tammi, Jeff Schweiger, Brian Schweiger and his special friend, Candace Ross, Michael Todd II and his wife, Jessica, Adam Todd, Sam E. Todd and Philip Todd; and nine great-grandchildren, Paige, Dalton, Michaela, Miranda, Siara and Hope Schweiger, Quenton Todd, Michael Easton Todd, and Mason Todd. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ernie; three infant brothers and sisters; and two brothers, Gene and Don Shanks. Pallbearers will be Todd, Jeff, Brian and Dalton Schweiger, Sam E. Todd, Philip and Michael Todd. Honorary pallbearer will be Adam Todd. Memorials in her name may be directed to the Alpha Center.
