SIOUX CITY -- Wanda Thoms, 84, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012, at a Sioux City hospital. Services will be 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 10, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Matthew Miller officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel. Online condolences may be posted at www.meyerbroschapels.com. Wanda was born on July 25, 1927, in Dutch East Indies, Netherlands, to Cornelis and Hetty (Jackson) Nicolai. She graduated from high school in the Netherlands. She married Donald Thoms on June 21, 1954, in Amsterdam, Netherlands. They moved to Sioux City in 1955 and had made it their home since then. Wanda worked as a seamstress for Aalfs Manufacturing for many years. She enjoyed knitting, crossword puzzles and traveling. She was an avid sports fan of North High sports, where she enjoyed watching her grandchildren compete. She was very proud of her Dutch heritage and never missed a Tulip Festival in Orange City, Iowa. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary and AARP. Survivors include her husband, Donald Thoms of Sioux City; two daughters, Laurie (Kirk) Kistner of Sioux City and Melinda Malcolm (fiancé Stanley Surber) of Sioux City; five grandchildren, Erin and Brian Malcom and Kara, Kody and Kaci Kistner; and numerous nieces and nephews in Holland. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Rudy; a sister, Hildy; and an infant daughter, Marguerite Susan Thoms.
