Norma Mary Olsen

SIOUX CITY -- Norma Mary Olsen, 86, of Correctionville, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, passed away Thursday, December 29, 2011, at Correctionville Nursing Center. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel in Sioux City. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Norma was born October 20, 1925 in Sioux City, the daughter of Arnold and Ella (Hering) Rinker. She graduated from Central High School. Norma worked for the Sioux City Schools in the Everett School lunchroom for many years. She married Bernard Olsen on November 3, 1946. They lived in Sioux City for most of their lives where they raised four children. They also lived in Pierson, Iowa for several years before moving to the nursing home. Norma loved caring for her flowers and crocheting. She made stocking caps for the kids at Everett School and continued making them at the nursing home for the children in the area. She enjoyed playing bingo and cards with her friends. She will be greatly missed by her family and all the wonderful friends at the Correctionville Nursing Center. She is survived by two sons, Jerry and Roxanne Olsen of Moville, Iowa, and Mark and Annette Olsen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a daughter, Marilyn Crum of Madison, Wis.; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernie; a son, Jodie; a sister, Evelyn; and her parents. Pallbearers will be Krestin Olsen, Chris Counterman and Randy Olsen. Her granddaughter, Jessica Olsen, will sing Amazing Grace for her grandmother at the funeral. Memorials may be directed towards the family.
