Evelyn Tondreau

SIOUX CITY -- Evelyn M. Tondreau, 89, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, December 29, 2011 at a local hospital. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at St. Michael Catholic Church, with the Rev. Gary Snyder officiating. A private family burial will be held in Rose Hill Cemetery at Emerson, Neb. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be directed to meyerbroschapels.com. Evelyn was born the daughter of Earl and Alvina (Hirsch) Bramsen on October 2, 1922 in Emerson, Neb., and attended school there. Evelyn married Ray Tondreau on August 17, 1943 in Dixon, Neb. They lived for a short time in Emerson before moving to the family farm in rural Sioux City, where she spent the next 65 years. Evelyn taught country school in the Emerson area. She also worked for her Aunt Dora's dress shop and Younkers as well as selling Mary Kay cosmetics over the years. She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and American Legion Monahan Post 64 Auxiliary. Evelyn enjoyed gardening, reading and crocheting. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and grandchildren. Evelyn is survived by two sons, Rod Tondreau of Sioux City, and Douglas and his wife Janet of South Sioux City; five daughters, Diane and her husband Larry Johnson of Sioux City, Corinne "Corky" Tondreau of Sioux City, Kathy and her husband Don "Skip" Meisner of Sioux City, Annette and her husband Steve Lake of Hinton, Iowa, and Janine and her husband Brad Stanton of Hinton; 14 grandchildren, Daniel Becker, David Becker, Dustin Craft, Randi Cavalli-Smith, Lorie Cavalli-Ascarza, Adam Cavalli, Jessica Tondreau-Gill, Landon Tondreau, Rustin Lake, Amber Lake-Kramer, Grant Lake, Bridget Bollmeyer-LaBahn, Brooke Bollmeyer-Hegarty and Bryce Bollmeyer; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray; one infant daughter, Lynn Marie; and two sisters, Onie and Shirley.
