SIOUX CITY -- Hazel Anna Ashby, 96, of Sioux City passed away Dec. 20, 2011, at Westwood Nursing Center. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 21, at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. A private family burial will be held at a later date. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time. Hazel was born October 1, 1915, in Battle Creek, Iowa, the daughter of Herman and Helene (Janssen) Feddersen. She grew up in Iowa. She married Buford Ashby on November 2, 1933, in Dakota City, Neb. They moved to Bremerton, Wash., in 1942, where Buford worked at the Puget Sound Shipyard. They returned to Iowa in 1945. In 1964, they returned to Bremerton. They were members of several bowling leagues until Buford's death in 1988. In 1988, Hazel returned to Iowa and was a senior companion for several years. Survivors include three sons and their wives, Norman and Corrine of Sioux City, Marlin and Pauline of Santa Maria, Calif., and Ron and Mary Ann of Little Falls, Minn.; three sisters, Helene McDermott of Marshalltown, Iowa, Lorraine and Raymond Johnson of Ida Grove, Iowa, and Joann Smith of Storm Lake, Iowa; one brother, Kenneth and Dorothy Feddersen of Battle Creek, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Pauline Feddersen of Anthon, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers, William, Lester, Herman, Robert, Raymond, Ross and Eugene; sisters, Viola Coon and Phyllis Luce; grandson, Mark Ashby; three brothers-in-law; and two sisters-in-law.
