Norma Jean Hoffman

Sioux City - Norma Jean Hoffman, 74, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2011, at home surrounded by family. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 19, 2011, at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. also at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Norma was born February 20, 1937, in Sioux City, the daughter of Robert and Viola (Eggleston) Stone. She graduated from East High School mid-term in 1955. She graduated from Western Iowa Tech in 1975 with an accounting degree. On February 20, 1955, she married Wilfred "Bill" Rush. To this union, two daughters were born, Jennie (Hass) Murtha and Jannette (Hass) Wilson. On June of 1960, she married Thomas E. Hass. To this union, three children were born, Jeffrey Hass, Jody Hass and Julie (Hass) Stolpe. On August 12, 1983, she was united in marriage with Eugene "Gene" Hoffman. They shared 28 years of marriage before her passing. Norma was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, where she once served as bookkeeper. She also served as the bookkeeper for the Boy Scouts of America in Sioux City for many years. For the past 20 years, she was the Secretary/Treasurer of Gestalt Inc., an international market research firm, which she founded with her daughter, Jannette Wilson and Dr. Peter F. Korsching of Iowa State University. She enjoyed several hobbies over the years including crocheting, playing the piano, reading and traveling. She was a member of the American Business Women's Association. She was an avid bowler, bowling up to three leagues a week over the years, serving as the Siouxland Bowling Association secretary in past years and most recently serving as the Vice President of the Harmony Belles League. Norma was a member of the U.S. Bowling Congress and also a member of the 700 club and bowled in the national tournament several years. She was a member of the first women's bowling team to join the men's Classic League. Family was always her first priority. She was always there for each and every one of us. She was even present at the birth of nearly all of her grandchildren and many of her great grandchildren. She was an inspiration to the family. Norma is survived by her husband, Eugene "Gene" Hoffman; three daughters, Jennie Murtha and husband, Roger of Sioux City, Jannette Wilson of Nevada, Iowa and Julie Stolpe and her husband, John of Sioux City; two sons, Jeffrey Hass of Sioux City and Jody Hass and his wife, Dawn of Glenwood Springs, Colorado; a sister, Janice Bauerly and her husband, Corwin; 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; 7 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Richard "Dick" Stone, her sister, Loraine Bowman, two sons-in-law, two nieces, one nephew, one grandson and one great-grandson. Memorials may be made in her namae to Good Shepherd Hour or Hispanic Missionary Henry Witte.
