SIOUX CITY -- Joseph P. Stabile, 83, of Sioux City passed away Monday, Dec. 12, 2011, at a local care facility. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. Michael Erpelding officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Joe, the son of Frank and Amelia (Pagano) Stabile, was born March 18, 1928, in Sioux City. He graduated from Trinity High School. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1946 to 1948. He married Donna Cain on July 24, 1948, in Sioux City. Joe worked at Swift Packing House until his retirement. He then worked for CYO at Heelan High School, where he was known as "CYO Joe." Joe had a great sense of humor and was a very kind and generous man. He loved to garden and travel. He was a great athlete and enjoyed playing both softball and golf. He was an avid Heelan and Notre Dame sports fan. He was a member of St. Jospeh Catholic Church. Joe is survived by his wife, Donna of Sioux City; a daughter, Carol Stabile of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a brother, Tony Stabile of Sioux City; a sister, Mary Goodrich of Texas; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, John, Pat and Carl. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Kelly, Nick Stabile, Roland Stabile, Frank Stabile, Coni Stabile, Joe Stabile. Joe's family would like to sincerely thank Hospice of Siouxland (Theresa, Heidi, Kim, and Tammy) and Holy Spirit Retirement Home for the kind and loving care they gave Joe.
