Donald "Yogi" Hilden, 60, of Sioux City passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011, at a Sioux City hospital. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 9, 2011 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with Rev. Tess Panamarow officiating. Burial of his cremains will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Iowa National Guard. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com. Yogi was born Jan. 30, 1951, to Victor and Eva (Udey) Hilden, in Sioux City. In his younger years, he was known as "Chopper." After graduating from Central High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1969 and served his country during the Vietnam War. He worked for IBP for 10 years being very active with the union and striving for workers' rights. He received his boiler's license from Western Iowa Tech Community College and had worked for the Sioux City School District since 1988, most recently as a building service engineer. Over the past 23 years with the school district, he served at West, Whittier, Central Campus and most recently at Irving. The highlight of his day at the school was interacting with all the kids. Yogi enjoyed bowling, going to the casinos, attending various types of concerts and was an avid Huskers fan. He is survived by his two daughters Leisa Hilden and Jody House, both of Sioux City; his beloved significant other of 18 years, Judy Sloan of Sioux City; five grandchildren, Daniel Hilden, Deshea Rodriguez, Cody Isaiah Hilden, Marcus Hilden and Travis Hilden; four great-grandchildren, Bishop Hilden, Adrian, Yessenia, and Antonio Rodriguez; two sets of twin siblings, Marlis Hilden of Sioux City and Marvin Hilden of West Virginia, and Vickie (Dick) Dawdy of Sioux City and Violet (Steve) Mann of Sioux City; a niece and three nephews, Christopher Cole, Candice Hunter, Matthew (Kelsie) Mann, and Lucas (Andrea) Mann; close family friends, McKenzie and Cameron McAdoo, Emma and Chloe Poskevich, Cade Creighton, Carson McMahon and Collin. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his best friend, Danny Engel. Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105-3678.
