SIOUX CITY -- William R. "Bill" LaCroix, 75, of Sioux City passed into eternal life Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011, at his residence, surrounded by his family. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix, Iowa, with the Rev. Patrick O'Kane officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the American Legion George Nelson Post 662 of Sergeant Bluff. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com. Bill was born Oct. 21, 1936, in Sioux City, the son of Richard and Wilma (Daniel) LaCroix. He graduated from Bronson (Iowa) High School and then joined the U.S. Navy. He married Eva Sue Gifford on Jan. 29, 1965, in Sioux City. Bill worked for Zenith for a short time, then sold tractor and truck tires for Montgomery Ward and Ben Fish Tire. He then went into car sales and worked for Crown Lincoln Mercury and various used car dealerships in Sioux City. After retiring from sales, he worked part time for the Sioux City Community School District as a bus driver and for Coach America driving railroad crew vans. He had been a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sioux City and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix. He was a member of American Legion George Nelson Post 662. He was an avid horse racing fan and enjoyed watching the races and visiting with friends at Atokad Park. He also enjoyed playing cribbage and chess. Bill loved to spend time with his family, friends and his granddaughter's dog, Hendrix. Survivors include his devoted wife, Sue of Sioux City; a daughter, Vicky Williams and her husband, Randy of Sloan, Iowa; two sons, Jim LaCroix of Sioux City and Robert LaCroix (Rose Sawyer) of Sioux City; eight grandchildren, Whitney LaCroix, Wendy LaCroix, Lacey Williams (Matt Sorenson), Jimmy LaCroix, Mark Sawyer, Jesse Williams, Alexandrea LaCoix and Kimberly Sawyer; a great-granddaughter, Lorelai Sorenson; two sisters, Connie Schultz and her husband, Gene of Sioux City and Kay Mesz and her husband, Howard of Sioux City; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
