NORTH SIOUX CITY -- Douglas Layne Rickard, 54, of North Sioux City died Monday, Nov. 7, 2011, at a Sioux City hospital. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011 in Memorial Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Del Olivier of Augustana Lutheran Church officiating. This service is open to all who have known or whose life had been touched by Doug. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com. Doug was born Nov. 12, 1956, in Sioux City, the son of Lawrence and Norma (Roenfeldt) Rickard. He grew up in Sioux City and graduated from West High School in 1975. He attended the University of South Dakota in Springfield, where he studied automotive technology and business. He was a highly skilled finish carpenter. He worked for various contractors in the Sioux City area and was an independent finish carpenter. While growing up, Doug was a member of Trimble United Methodist Church. He had many hobbies and interests including camping, canoeing, woodworking and working on old vehicles. Doug had a crazy love for VW Vanagons. Survivors include his special friend, Sarah Robertson of North Sioux City; two sisters, Suzanne Hagberg of Sioux City and Marilee Rickard of Mankota, Minn.; a brother, William Rickard of Ames, Iowa; a nephew, Erik Hagberg of Decatur, Ill.; a niece, Anne Winter and her husband, Craig of Sioux City; his aunt, JoJo Stanwick of Omaha; and a grandniece, Kaylyn of Sioux City. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials may be directed to the Siouxland Humane Society in his name, in honor of his beloved rescue dog, Roxanne "Roxy".
