Ruth A. Lorius

SIOUX CITY -- Ruth A. Lorius, 70, of Sioux City passed away Monday, Oct. 31, 2011, at a local hospital following a brief illness. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 4, 2011 at St. John Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Greg Hanneman officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to meyerbroschapels.com. Ruth, the daughter of Jens and Clara (Hexem) Dahl, was born on Aug. 1, 1941, in Brookings, S.D. She graduated from Volga (S.D.) High School, followed by beauty school. She married Robert Lorius on Nov. 24, 1962. They moved to Sioux City, where they raised their family. Robert died on Feb. 6, 1996. Ruth worked at home health care and later at Hamilton Hy-Vee. She enjoyed her co-workers and the customers at Hy-Vee. She loved to travel and visit her family. Ruth is survived by three sons, David (Somjit) Lorius of Sioux City, Daniel (Mai) Lorius of Kansas City, Kansas, and Michael (Carita) Lorius of Kansas City, Kansas; one daughter, Dawn (Matt) Schmidt of San Jose, California; two brothers, Roger (Bev) Dahl of Denver, Colorado, and Jim Dahl of Brookings, South Dakota; one sister, Marilyn (Erlin) Ellison of Vermillion, South Dakota; one brother-in-law, Neale (Dorothy) Lorius of Lemmon, South Dakota; one sister-in-law, Norma LaBarge of Lemmon, South Dakota; five grandchildren, Josh, Travis, Emily, Alexander, and Becky; one great grandchild, Grete; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Robert.
