Betty J. Johnson, 85, of Sioux City passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at Casa De Paz Nursing Home. Funeral services for Betty will be on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Community of Christ Church with Pastor Tim Baller officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 4-8 p.m. with family present from 6-8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Betty was born on August 10, 1926 in Sioux City to Otto and Lena (Winter) Dinkel. She attended Central High School. Betty was married to Lester Johnson on June 30, 1950 in South Sioux City, NE. He preceded her in death on September 6, 1984 in Sioux City. Betty worked for 20 years for Win Charger and Zenith where she was very active in the union serving as a union steward. She later worked as a clerk for Western Hills Area Education Agency for 14 years and retired in 1996. Betty enjoyed cooking; especially Christmas candy and cookies, being a pen pal, and the company of her dog Maggie. She especially enjoyed time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Community of Christ Church. Betty is survived by her daughter Paula Hinkel and fiancé Pieter Breitner of Sherman Oaks, CA; and her son Steven (Dorine Murad-Johnson) Johnson of Sioux City; sister Lois Choquette of Sioux City; 3 grandchildren Libby Vriezelaar and twins Hannah and Lexie Johnson; 3 great grandchildren Kaitlyn, Parker, and Chloe Vriezelaar. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 2 brothers Robert Dinkel and Glen Dinkel.
