SIOUX CITY -- Mary J. Fillaus, 85, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011, at a local nursing facility. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, 2011 in Memorial Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Gerald Feierfeil officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the U.S. Army. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Mary Jane Owens was born Dec. 2, 1925, in Sioux City. Jane was a former Sioux City Sue contest finalist in August 1946. Jane served in the Women's Army Corps (WAC) during the Korean Conflict from 1952 until her honorable discharge in 1959. Upon returning to Sioux City, she worked as a bartender at the Flamingo in South Sioux City. She married Donald Fillaus on April 9, 1969 in Omaha. Jane worked in the office of Farner Bocken before her retirement. Mary is survived by her sister, Wanda Hamsa of Omaha.
