SIOUX CITY -- Lois Von Hagel, 84, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 7, 2011 at Faith Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Ralph Shorey officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Lois E. (Heyl) Von Hagel was born Oct. 20, 1926, in Union County, S.D., to Walter and Josephine (Miller) Heyl. She graduated from Akron High School, Akron, Iowa, in 1944. She continued her education at the Sioux Valley Hospital School of Nursing in Sioux Falls, S.D., in 1947 and the Twin Cities School for anesthesia in Minneapolis-St. Paul in 1951. Lois worked at Sioux City hospitals until 1981, when she was given a medical disability retirement from Marian Health Center. She was a 40-year member of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists. During World War II, she served in the Cadet Nurse Corps. Lois married Eldon Von Hagel on June 23, 1952, in Minnesota. Eldon passed away on April 13, 2011. She always enjoyed fishing with Eldon and winters in Arizona. She also loved playing cards with her bridge group. She was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church, where she had served as chairman of the Lutheran Women's Altar Committee. She taught Sunday School and midweek classes. She had served as chairman of the Sioux City Zone LWML. Lois is survived by one son, Tom (Patricia) Von Hagel of Chicago, Ill.; one daughter, Carol (Tom) Garvey of Sioux City; two sisters, LaVon Burg of Santa Fe, N.M., and Vergene Olson of Des Moines; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Eldon.
