Arthur E. Swanson

Arthur E. Swanson, 83, of Dakota Dunes, SD passed away Tuesday October 4th , 2011 at a local hospital comforted by his family. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday October 8th 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sioux City, IA with Rev. Craig Collison officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 Friday with the family present 6-8 p.m. and a Vigil service at 7 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be posted online at www.meyerbroschapels.com . Arthur was born in Cherokee, IA on April 3rd, 1928 the son of Otto A. and Ida (Nelson) Swanson. He attended Grand Meadow Elementary, East Junior High, and graduated from East High in 1945. Upon graduation Arthur enlisted in the U.S. Navy, served his country faithfully, and was Honorably Discharged in 1948. Arthur was a lifelong member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 33. Arthur married Nanette Lee of Minneapolis, Minnesota on May 6th, 1950. Together they raised three sons; Steve, Lee, and Brian. Arthur is survived by his wife Nanette; sons, Steve of Colorado, Lee (Joyce) of Sioux City, and Brian (Claudia) of Colorado; four grandchildren Melissa, Matthew (Megan), Jake (significant other Jessyca Larson), and Kevin. Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister-in-law Ted and Goldie Clauson. Pallbearers will be Daniel Wolfe, Harold Grieve, Doug Meyers and his grandchildren. Arthur's family wishes to give special thanks to the nurses and staff of St. Luke's Medical Center and Hospice of Siouxland for their excellent care.
